This is not the first time that the business was acquired. Magento was set up in 2008 and bought by eBay in 2011 in a deal reported to be only $180 million.

The firm went private in 2015 with assistance from Permira Funds, which sources state paid about $200 million. Now the firm sold for nearly $1.7 billion.
