website indexation

Why is it so that even after providing useful information to our users, we still aren’t getting traffic on our website? We often go wrong or are unaware of the formulation of the website indexing, which also lowers our ranking in search engine position. Apart from factors that affect your website’s SEO ranking, There are certain do and don’t while indexing your website pages. We have listed a few techniques in improving the indexing of your website:

Table of Contents

No/few backlinks by your page

If your website page has useful data to provide to the users with no or few backlinks, your page will be crushed by the competitive pages of other websites and will be ultimately thrown to a lower level of ranking.

Backlinks are also known as incoming links, inbound links, in links, and inward links to your website or web page.

So unless you provide backlinks, authority, and traffic with original content on your page, search engines will not give you a higher ranking.

Size of the page

Some search engines do not process pages with a size of more than 100K. This doesn’t include pages with content of linked images, external CSS, or Javascript files. To improve indexing and acceptance of your page by search engines, you should split your page into parts, externalize inline Javascript or CSS, or you can compress your HTML.

Use of an invalid official link of your page

While forwarding official links to other users, one often forgets to mention correct connections of the official links which include www to non-www, HTTP to HTTPS, .com, or co. in. Although the page is still accessible from its official URL browser, search engines are confused about whether to index your page or not.

Hence provide correct official links with secured connections (HTTP) of your page to all the search engines from where the users can reach you directly and perform the online sales uninterruptedly. Don’t give a reason for search engines to discard your website because of wrong connections.

Proper direction to your homepage

Make it a point to provide a correct backlink to your homepage, like  http://mysite.com/home.html. If you provide only  http://mysite.com, backlinks do not appear miraculously on their own will. This direction without a backlink is considered to be a different URL by search engines. This ultimately leads to a major confusion in ranking, indexing or might even lead to the crashing of your page by search engines.

Customize the content of the page

Time and again, users demand a change in content or an upgrade in the information provided by you on your page. Even when the difference in new content is minimal, there might be an issue with the duplicity of content on the website. Search engines might get confused about whether they are providing the correct URL to the user’s queries or not. In that case, change the URL parameters according to the data provided in the content and let the search engines properly do the indexing part. Try to avoid duplicity of content in your website pages.

  • Update older posts with recent versions

Register multiple sitemaps at robots.txt

When developing a new website, one often creates sitemap.xml files as their new pages with the necessary data and submits it to their favorite search engine. Robots.txt is such a file where all the new website sitemap.xml files are registered and all the search engines automatically find new website pages on this file. So it is mandatory to register your new or updated sitemap.xml files on robots.txt file for better indexing and crawling of your pages by all the possible search engines.

Premature indexing

Many content initiators are impatient about their content indexed or ranking quickly. When creating a new website, they often create dozens of pages (with sitemap.xml files) that are still work-in-progress types or create duplicate content for completing a particular page. Content writers expect an increase in the acceleration and exposure of their web page as a result of premature indexing. This instead backfires the writer.

For new websites, Google tries to find the intent of the website for a couple of months.

Indexing and crawling of the page are wholly dependent on the quality of the content, the number of backlinks provided, and the amount of traffic. So providing poor quality content or duplicate content at an early stage of your website will lead to a lower grade of indexing or crawling of your page. The solution is to mention ‘NOINDEX’ on the work-in-progress pages. When the page is production-ready, remove the no-index tag and let the search engines work progressively for your site.

Conclusion

Improve the indexing, ranking, and crawling of your data by using the above information to its fullest. This will only help your users to access your page at a faster rate and thus upsurge the level of your business.
