What is Two-Factor Authentication?

Two-factor authentication adds an extra layer of security by adding a second step to your login. It takes something you know (ie. your password) and adds a second factor, typically something you have (such as your phone.) Since both are required to log in, even if an attacker has your password they can’t access your account.

Why do you need it?

Passwords are increasingly easy to compromise. They can often be guessed or leaked, they usually don’t change very often, and despite advice otherwise, many of us have favorite passwords that we use for more than one account. So Two-factor authentication gives you additional security because your password alone no longer allows access to your account.

How it works?

There are many different options available, we support more than one so you have the choice. But one of the most common and simplest to use is time-based one-time passwords. With this, in addition to your regular username & password, you also have to enter a 6 digit code that changes every 30 seconds. Only your token device (typically a mobile smartphone) will know your secret key and be able to generate valid one-time passwords for your account. This adds additional security to your account.

You can use any app which supports Google codes for 2FA, below you will find a shortlist of apps we recommend:

Google Authenticator (GA)

Default app for 2FA.

You can download it both from App Store and Google Play.

Please check setup instructions in this article.

Authy

Advanced app for 2FA.

You can download it for your mobile device from App Store or Google Play or install a browser extension to your Chrome browser(available for Windows, Mac, Linux).

Check instructions how to set Authy up in here.

How to Activate Two-Factor Authentication?

To make your account even more secure, we recommend enabling 2FA (two-factor authentication).

Follow the steps below after you logged in to your account of netspaceindia.com to enable 2FA:

  • Click on your name in the right-top corner > select Security Setting.
  • In the Settings section, switch two-factor from OFF to ON.
  • You will see a QR code and a secret code. Use Google Authenticator or Authy app on your phone to scan the QR code or add the secret code.
  • Enter the 6-digits Authentication Code from the app > click Activate.

You can disable two-factor authentication by turning the switch from ON to OFF.

If you lost your phone or something happened which prevents you from using the app, you should contact Netspaceindia support – we will be able to disable two-factor authentication for you. Please be ready to provide your ID or any other information necessary for proof of ownership of the account – we take the safety of your data and funds very seriously.

NOTE: We strongly recommend that you enable two-factor authentication for your account.
