Situation:

Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) is an open standard application programming interface (API) that allows application programmers to access any database.

If your application needs to access external databases through ODBC, then you can create the necessary ODBC connection in Plesk. After you have created the ODBC connection, you can customize the application to use that ODBC connection to access information in the database.

Solution:

Data Source Name (DSN) is the logical name that is used by Open Database Connectivity (ODBC) to refer to the drive and other information that is required to access data. The name is used by Internet Information Services (IIS) for a connection to ODBC data source, such as a Microsoft SQL Server database.

NetSpaceIndia does support DSN connection over our Windows Shared Hosting

To create a new ODBC connection to a database in Plesk, follow the below steps.

  1. Login to Plesk.
  2. Go to Websites & Domains, after that click on ODBC Data Sources as shown below:

  3. Click on the Add ODBC DSN connection, refer to the screenshot below:

  4. Add connection name, then under driver option select your db driver for which you want to add ODBC DSN connection and the click OK as shown below:

  5. Select the proper Login ID, Password, Default Database for the ODBC data source as shown below:

  6. Click on Test Connection to test the connectivity with the database and click Next button, then Finish to complete the DSN creation as shown below:
