Port Speed Vs Line Speed

Most of the company offer dedicated servers /  VPS Hosting with port speed as the selling point of their network. However, it is important to understand the difference between port speed and line speed:

Port Speed: 
It means the physical port speed capabilities, like the LAN card of the server or router maximum capacity of transferring data. it can be full duplex or half duplex. typically 100 Mbps, 1 Gbps, or 10 Gbps

Line Speed: 
This will the maximum speed of line connected to your server provided by your service provider. 

It is always good to have higher port speed than the line speed.
