NS Lookup
Find out which nameservers are authoritative for a domain.
What is a NS record?
NS records (Nameserver records) tell the internet which DNS servers are authoritative for a domain — i.e., which servers hold the real, up-to-date DNS records. When you look up any other record type (A, MX, TXT, etc.), the resolver first finds the NS records to know who to ask.
NS records are usually set at your domain registrar, not at your DNS provider. If you're moving DNS to a different provider — say switching to Netspace India's India-based DNS hosting — updating the NS records at the registrar is the critical step.
Common uses
- Verify your domain uses the correct nameservers (Cloudflare, Netspace India, etc.)
- Confirm a nameserver migration has been published
- Diagnose DNS issues by checking which servers are authoritative
- Audit which DNS provider a competitor is using
