SOA Record Lookup
View the Start of Authority record — primary nameserver, serial, timing values.
What is a SOA record?
Every DNS zone has exactly one SOA record (Start of Authority). It identifies the primary authoritative nameserver, the responsible email contact, and timing parameters (serial number, refresh, retry, expire, minimum TTL) that control how secondary nameservers sync with the primary.
The serial number is the most-watched field — every time the zone is edited, the serial increments. If you've just made a DNS change, checking the serial tells you whether your changes have been picked up by secondary nameservers. For high-availability DNS with properly-tuned SOA defaults, Netspace India's DNS hosting handles all this for you.
Common uses
- Verify DNS zone changes have propagated to secondary nameservers
- Check the primary nameserver for a domain
- Debug DNS replication delays
- Confirm the responsible email contact for a zone
